The National Film & TV Awards – Africa is the continental edition of the globally recognised awards show produced by the National Film Academy. As part of the Academy’s strategic 5-year expansion across the African continent, the awards were officially launched in South Africa in 2023, marking a new chapter in celebrating Africa’s contribution to global film and television.

The inaugural National Film & TV Awards – South Africa has already established itself as a landmark event, attracting leading filmmakers, actors, creators, media houses, and industry professionals from across the nation. Its success reflects a growing desire to showcase African stories, culture, and talent on a world-class platform.

Expanding Across the Continent

With South Africa as the foundational market, the National Film Academy is now actively rolling out the National Film & TV Awards across key African nations. Planned editions over the next five years include:

  • Nigeria – A celebration of Nollywood’s global influence and talent
  • Ghana – Honouring emerging voices and dynamic film productions
  • Kenya – Recognising East Africa’s rising film and TV industries
  • Tanzania – Showcasing cross-border storytelling and Swahili cinema
  • Egypt – Paying tribute to North Africa’s historic role in cinema
  • And more African territories to follow…

Each country will host its own national edition of the awards, with winners voted for by the public and supported by a global network of sponsors, platforms, and media outlets.
