Nominees for the 8th annual National Film Awards 2022 announced

United Kingdom, London, 20th of April 2022: The National Film Academy has today announced the nominations for the 8th annual National Film Awards UK set to take place on the 4th of July 2022 at The Porchester in London.

Spider-Man: No Way Home, No Time to Die, I Care A Lot, Citation, The Harder They Fall, Don’t Look Up, Spencer, King Richard, and People Just Do Nothing: Big in Japan make the academy shortlist for Best International Film whilst The Best Actor category sees Jude Law get a nod for his role as Albus Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore franchise. Also nominated within this category are; Riz Ahmed (Encounter), Ben Whishaw (Surge), Michael Caine (Twist), Chiwetel Ejiofor (The Man Who Fell to Earth), Neil Maskell (Bull), and Stephen Merchant for his role as Gregory Dillard in the Amazon Prime series The Outlaws.

Judi Dench’s performance as ‘Granny’ in Belfast earns her a Best Actress nod. She joins a shortlist of nominees including Anne Hathaway (Locked Down), Billie Piper (Rare Beasts), Rosamund Pike (I Care A Lot), Kate Beckinsale (Jolt), Samantha Morton (Save The Cinema), Anjana Vasan (We Are Lady Parts) and Thandiwe Newton (God’s Country).

This year (2022), over 3.5 million film and television fans submitted their nominations via the official National Film Academy website, and as of today (20/04/22). The public can now vote for their favorites by registering and logging on to www.nationalfilmawards.org/voting

The National Film Academy produces the National Film Awards in the UK and the National Film & TV Awards ceremony in the USA annually. The third edition of the NFTA returns to Los Angeles on the 5th of December.

Last year during the virtual/in-person award held in London, British actor  Rowan Atkinson was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Global Contribution to Motion Picture award.  He commented, “I am incredibly humbled to receive this prestigious recognition from the National Film Academy. The last 2 years have been dominated by the Television serial format responding to the huge demand for a continuous dose of drama-related content that keeps viewers engaged. The Netflix series, Emily in Paris which has made headlines worldwide in the past year leads the way with x6 nominations including;   Best TV Drama Series,  Best Actor in a TV Series for Lucien Laviscount who also goes head to head with fellow cast member Lucas Bravo as they are also both nominated for the Best Supporting Actor in a TV series category. Other cast members from the series nominated include; Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Ashley Park,  for Best Supporting Actress in a TV series, and lead star Lily Collins also getting a nod for Best Actress in a TV seriesEmily in Paris will be going head to head with Squid Game who are also nominated for Best TV Drama Series, Best Actor in a TV series for Lee Jung-jae, Best Supporting Actress for Kang Sae-byeok, Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series for Oh Yeong-su, and a nod for Best Action in a Film/Series.

Public Voting for the 8th annual National Film Awards UK starts on the 20th of April 2022 and ends on the 20th of  June 2022 with winners announced at the awards live on the 4th of July 2022.
